** THIS IS STILL VERY MUCH A BETA SYSTEM **

Introduction

I'm a bit of a nerd and love data. When I started doing endurance and team races in iRacing I wanted to understand more about strategy and planning. I wanted to be able to plan with a certain level of accuracy the stints we would be undertaking as drivers and present some 'answers' in relation to pit stops and strategy. Initially we used the Sassy Endurance Manager - an excellent spreadsheet based planner for stints. However, as the team events progressed we started expecting more from our planning and data. I then started to look at my own planner and at each step I realised I had more questions I wanted asking or data I wanted to have available. iRaceEngineer is the ongoing project aimed at forfilling that need.

Tracking Data

The first aspect in planning any endurance event is what are the predicted lap times, fuel usage and stint lengths. In iRacing we can obtain that data in a number of ways with Garage61 being one of the most popular. Garage 61 provides a lot of data including detailed telemetry off the car but this data only becomes available at pitting and/or the end of the session - not much use during a race with many metrics not being any help at all.

iRaceEngineer collects data in two ways:

  1. It draws data from the iRacing API at the end of a session found on your profile.

  2. It uses an agent (that you install on your own PC) that gathers data from the SDK while the sim is running that can be viewed in the local UI or via your dash page.

You will find that the iRaceEngineer agent does not try and gather detailed telemetry from the car or at different points around the track much like G61. It could do this but in order to maintain live data whilst minimising memory space and network data transfers it collects specific timing data when the car passes the start/finish line or enters the pits.

Reference Data

As the project developed I realise I wanted to know other information about the tracks, cars and events that we were participating. So eventually the Cars, Tracks and Series were all added. I actually prefer having the single page views for all information about a track or car rather than the step through UI design of iRacing. I find it easier for browsing. In future I will improve the search and filtering features

Getting Started

You are free to browse Cars, Tracks and Series without being logged in.

To take advantage of the Tracking Data you will need to register and/or login.
